Perry is she is Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut on television as Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on Roseanne, an ABC show Roseanne. Because of their fear of stress, the parents were not keen to let the actress pursue acting until turning age 18. Perry, who was too shy to be a part of the theater in her school, began to perform in theater classes at Northwestern University because she wanted to meet new people. Perry made her debut with New York after graduation, getting small parts in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homesickness led to Perry return to California and find work as a theater actress. Perry was a part of Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played nine roles in the ABC thriller The Family, in 2016. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC drama Scandal. That same year she played a young version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother in a youthful version. She was cast in the role in spite of her strong familial connection to the character.
